Sizing by guest count
The floor area you need depends on how guests use the space. As a rough planning guide, allow more room for a seated dinner than for a standing reception, and add area on top for a dance floor, bar, stage or catering.
- Seated dinner with round tables: roughly 1.5 to 2 m2 per guest
- Buffet or theatre-style seating: roughly 1 to 1.5 m2 per guest
- Standing reception: roughly 0.6 to 1 m2 per guest
- Add separate area for a dance floor, stage, bar and catering
Flooring and levelling
On uneven or soft ground a raised, levelled floor makes a marquee feel like a building rather than a field. We can supply cassette flooring, carpet or a hard deck, and level over slopes and grass.
A solid floor also protects the ground beneath and keeps furniture and heels stable through the evening.
Lighting, heating and climate
The right lighting sets the mood: warm ambient light, chandeliers, uplighting on the walls or festoon along the eaves. We can rig the fixings so cabling stays hidden.
Heaters keep an evening event comfortable in cooler seasons, and for warm-weather events good ventilation and openable walls keep the interior fresh.
Walls, windows and entrances
Walls can be solid for privacy and weather, clear PVC to keep a view, or glazed with proper windows for a more finished look. A dressed entrance or a linking corridor between structures lifts the whole arrival experience.
Because the sides are modular you can open the marquee up on a fine day and close it down if the weather turns.
Alu-frame versus pop-up
An aluminium-frame marquee and a folding pop-up gazebo solve different problems. The frame marquee is engineered for larger spans, longer occupation and a premium finish; the pop-up is for speed and portability at a smaller scale.
For a wedding or a multi-day corporate event, the frame marquee is almost always the right structure. For a market stall or a promo stand, a pop-up is quicker and cheaper.
Frequently asked questions
How many guests will a marquee hold?+
It depends on the layout. Give us your guest count and whether it is a seated dinner, buffet or standing reception, and we will recommend a size with room for a dance floor and catering.
Can the marquee be joined to a building?+
Yes. Marquees can be linked to a venue, to a house or to a second structure with a covered corridor so guests move under cover throughout.
What happens if it rains or the wind gets up?+
The structure is weatherproof and properly anchored. Solid or glazed walls close it in, and our crew can stay on duty during the event to manage the sides and heating.
